Leach Lewis Plant Limited : Construction Machinery Sales

History

Leach Lewis Plant started as the plant department of Hubert C Leach, run by Hubert’s brother, Peter. It was incorporated in 1967 as H.C Leach (Contractors Plant) Limited and floated off as an autonomous organisation. Six years later Robin Leach took the helm and set about expanding the business by obtaining franchises for leading UK manufacturers, amongst them Thwaites dumpers and Norton Clipper diamond products, still with us after 35 years.

The company took a major step forward in 1976, with the acquisition of long established (founded in 1873 North London plant hire and sales firm Lewis & Lewis Ltd. At a stroke, the company (now rechristened Leach Lewis Plant Ltd) doubled both product range and territorial coverage.

By 1989, changing market forces persuaded Leach Lewis’ directors to sell the hire fleet and concentrate on it’s rapidly growing sales division.

New, premium sales distributorships were added: Bomag compaction equipment, Kubota mini excavators, Manitou forklifts and Atlas Copco compressors, were all awarded around this time. Geographic expansion came through acquisitions, including Claude Fenton Plant Sales, Dandridge Plant Sales and Lyn Davis Plant Sales as the company reached beyond its Hertfordshire heartland into Oxfordshire, South East England and South Wales.

Ever on the look out for innovative ideas, the company has expanded into associated fields. Leach Lewis Finance providing a dedicated service to the construction industry and Leach Lewis Rubber Tracks, the market leader in aftermarket tracks.

Long term partnerships with customers and suppliers are highly valued and so too are fresh ideas to meet the increasingly sophisticated demands of today’s construction industry.
